When it comes to altering the appearance of your smile, you may feel that the process will be long-winded and excessively expensive.
And if you have a range of dental aesthetic issues, such as yellowing of the teeth, cracks or chips, or even minor spacing between your teeth, you may believe that the process will take a long time and will be physically uncomfortable too.
Luckily, there is a way to get around all of the problems listed above with a simple cosmetic procedure known as porcelain laminates.
At DRMR, we are proud to be able to offer veneers London to our patients who are looking to improve the aesthetic of their smile without excessive orthodontic work, whitening, or other procedures that they may find physically invasive. Great!
But if you have never heard of porcelain laminates or veneers London before, you may want to know a little bit more about them before deciding if they are right for you. Here, our team provides a brief guide to this cosmetic and surprisingly versatile dental procedure.
What are they?
Simply put, veneers London are a thin porcelain shell, like an acrylic nail that is placed over the front of your teeth to create an aesthetically pleasing result.
And while they are made from porcelain, do not worry, they are not prone to cracking or breaking in the same way that porcelain cutlery is, and we promise that the laminates we provide at DRMR are sturdy enough to eat with.
Fitting
To have porcelain laminates fitted, our team will need to take measurements, which may be done with either a scan of your teeth or by using a traditional dental mould.
These measurements are then sent to a dental laboratory where the laminates are created from porcelain to your exact tooth measurements and are sent back to our surgery to be fitted.
The fitting is fairly straightforward.
We will sand a small fragment of the front of the tooth to which the laminate is to be attached to create a rough surface, ensuring a better bond between the laminate and the tooth. Then, using dental cement, we secure the laminate in place, and after some set time, the laminates are good to go.
Aftercare
To ensure that your laminates last a long time, you will need to care for them as you would your natural teeth, so you will need to brush them, floss them and, of course, attend dental checkups with our team. With this kind of care, you can ensure that your porcelain laminates will last up to and over 15-years with ease, but if you have concerns that one of your laminates is coming loose, please feel free to contact us for an assessment.
Contraindications
As is the way with many cosmetic issues, that are contraindications that can make the process of fitting laminates more tricky. If you are a smoker or drink excessive quantities of alcohol, you are heightening the chance of your laminates falling off prematurely, due to associated conditions like gum disease.
